Martinsburg Mountaineers

You walk into a restaurant, a bar, you order a beer.  It doesn’t get much more habitual, more straightforward, or generally more male than that.  It’s as universal and profoundly normal a procedure as any element of our modern lives, and I guess that’s why we don’t focus on it beyond what it takes the act itself to transpire.  After all, we are if nothing else, creatures of habit, and perhaps nothing represents our various patterns more precisely than how we choose to unwind, to socialize, or to refresh ourselves.  Life is interesting in this way, in how we rarely stop to analyze an aspect of our routine that consistently defines us.

So you order your beer, probably your “go-to” beverage, unless the particular establishment you inhabit is offering a better deal on something that conveniently occupies your “acceptable” list.  But that, as they say, is likely the extent of it in terms of the mental exertion you will donate to this transaction.  I mean, why complicate things?  There are conversations to be had, games to watch, numbers and texts to exchange.

How many of us truly peer over the polished counter or deep enough into the list of spirits to see exactly what a favorite watering hole has to offer, and furthermore, to see if anything offered is local?  I’m guessing not many of us.  And when I say local, I’m referring to Mountaineer Beer - officially known as Mountaineer Brewing Company (MBC) – brewed right here in Martinsburg and sold in plenty of restaurants, bars, and almost all of the area grocery stores.  Again, not many of us.
